
Vernon lectures med students on medical errors
Vernon lectured students at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in the course Reducing Medical Errors and Malpractice Risks . MUSC faculty instructors are W. Michael Southgate, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Gautham Suresh, M.D., Asssistant Professor of Pediatrics.
Students will obtain practical experience related to Patient Safety during thier concurrent clinical rotations with the help of course faculty. These experiences may carry out an observational study of medical errors, studying one particular error in depth or participating in hospital root-cause analysis.
Dr. Southgate is a pediatric neonatolgist and Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at MUSC's Children's Hospital. Dr. Suresh is a graduate of the Center for Evaluative Sciences at Dartmouth Medical School and an active researcher in the field of medical errors and patient safety.
